Choose Your Personal Scripture Memory Review Style

Whether you’re in the process of memorizing or you have already memorized Scripture Memory Guaranteed scripture, reviewing is very important.  If you don’t review, you will forget what you have memorized. Be mindful however, to keep in line with the HOPE Method.  Review isn’t just a time to say the words over and over so you won’t forget them.  Review is a time to extend meditation.  Review always presents new opportunities for you to reevaluate, reexamine, and explore new ways of thinking.  Also review is an extended and continued time to reflect, enjoy, marvel and wonder. Review is a part of slow and proper digestion when eating scripture.

With that said, I recommend that you vary your methods for review.  This will not only help you to embed the scriptures you have memorized into your long term memory, but it will also help you to accommodate your busy schedule.  As we know, life happens, and your season of life may determine your preferred mode of review.  My recommendations for review also address different learning styles, visual, auditory, and kinesthetic.  Consider the tips and tasks below as you express your scripture for review.

General Review

  • Review daily until the memory is solid

  • Review on a rotational basis once you feel it’s solid

  • Review in your head or to yourself

  • Review by writing previously memorized scripture.

  • Review by listening and reciting silently to previously memorized scripture.

  • Review by listening and reciting aloud to previously memorized scripture.  (my favorite)

Visual Review (return to the notes you created while completing the HOPE Method or use your favorite Scripture Memory Guaranteed scripture)

  • Color code your highlights

  • Use different colors of pens

  • Use various color and textures of paper

  • Create flash cards

  • Post scripture in various areas you visit throughout the day

  • Draw diagrams, charts, pictures or cartoons

  • Imagine the scene you are memorizing

Auditory Review

  • Listen to recorded scripture

  • Create review playlists

  • Read memorized scripture aloud to hear the rhythm

Kinesthetic Review

  • Rewrite each verse or line(s) you are memorizing 5 or more times. (just as your grade school teacher had you write your spelling words

  • Write using different colors, sizes of pens, markers etc

  • Write on different textures, colors of paper

  • Get in front of the mirror and dramatize the scripture you are memorizing

  • Use snapping, pacing, or other body movements while reciting scripture

Remember!   You must express the words as you review.   No monotonous repeating allowed!
